Throughout the course of this school year, I worked by myself, with the help of my sister and my friends and family to create a music video promotion package consisting of a digipak, a music video, and a social media page. This project truly helped me by working with my family and it helped me to see that they are willing to put effort in my project even if they do not win anything from this. It helped me develop my creativity and persistence in the best way possible. I wanted my project to portray a story that many people can relate to. The story of a life full of events that can change how we feel, but at the end we all put a smile on our faces and pretend that everything is alright. I feel like this particular storyline is relatable to the target audience which we are targeting our products towards, which would be people from the ages of 15-40, especially younger people, but not only, even the grown ups have their ups and downs. This is because they will relate easier, as usually those who find themselves in a challenging situation are more sensitive but they can put that simple and innocent simple, and move on easily, even if it’s wind, even if it's rain at the end everything will come to normal. The music video which I created is from the point of view of the “victim” in this situation, fully allowing the audience to place themselves in this position and be “attacked” by the sad events, in the video represented by the wind and rain. The digipak and instagram page by themselves don’t necessarily convey a storyline like the music video, but rather work hand in hand with the other products, complementing each other to create a cohesive and unified package as a whole.
This leads into the question of how to link all of the products in order to create a brand image. I mostly did this through visual elements like color schemes, texts, and fonts, trying to make sure everything matched, and that similar elements were found in each product in order to keep a sense of continuity throughout. Billie Eilish's music resonates with audiences for its candid exploration of personal struggles, societal issues, and emotional depth. Billie's approach is more straightforward and introspective, drawing listeners into her world through raw, unfiltered lyrics and haunting melodies. Billie's authenticity and willingness to address taboo topics like mental health, body image, and identity have earned her widespread acclaim and a dedicated fanbase. Her music videos, known for their cinematic quality and avant-garde visuals, further amplify the impact of her songs, creating immersive experiences that linger in the minds of viewers long after the music stops.
Beyond her music, Eilish's fashion choices and visual aesthetic have become defining elements of her persona, challenging conventional beauty standards and inspiring a new generation of artists and fans to embrace individuality and self-expression.
I love the lyrics of her song “What Was I Made For?”It tells such a strong story, in a more abstract way, in a way obligating the audience to look past the metaphors and try to understand the deeper meaning. The products interpret the hidden meanings and lay them out in a clearer format, especially the music video, managing to convey a strong message to the audience.
Overall, the research and planning process was definitely one of the most important parts of the project. Identifying the target audience was definitely a good first step, and based on this I knew exactly how to create and formulate the products in order to cater specifically to the target. During the research and planning process, I was also able to discover the dynamic as a team with my family, and truly be able to understand our different ideas and ways of thinking, which was an immense help for later on in the actual production process of the products as I was able to please everyone.
